Last year we saw the Fulbright announcement<\/a> on our website and we decided to apply for it; now we are very glad we did so because it turned out to be an exciting process.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember how busy I was at the beginning of May in my last year of university: the thesis didn\u2019t seem to write herself, many exams and courses\u2026 so I decided to leave everything aside for few days and focus on something completely different to clear my mind. That\u2019s how I saw the Fulbright post and started the application. The essays I wrote were far from being perfect, because I just put my thoughts on a paper without correcting\/improving\/deleting\/ask for feedback and all of that big fuss. This is not a suggestion to do like me though, make sure you present your best YOU in there\u201d \u2013 Andreea Sfia<\/p>\n \u2018In 1958 Hannah Arendt discussed the issue of automation. In the Human Condition she defines the three types of activity: labor, work and action. The term of labor is related to raw work: digging the field, repetitive work like the one after the industrial revolution, ultimately, any activity which does not involve intellectual effort or incite a minimal one, primary being the physical activity. The work comes as a superior activity to labor where conceptualizing comes in, designs and implementing with the help of the intellect and putting everything into a final product: i.e. table, chair, and so on. In my opinion, every student of the Aerospace Engineering Faculty tends and is entitled to lean towards the third type of activity: action. This activity involves the ability to create connections, several activities through which an interconnection of various components from different domains is formed and functions. This requires interdisciplinarity. I now see that this is what our faculty is preparing us for, not to perform the same task after we have perfected it, not to be content with the examinations, but for continuing with the evolution, for that top of the lance about which we have been told since our first year. It is in our nature to evolve, and the incentive I received following the courses of the Aerospace Engineering faculty and listening to the teachers, even when we had to look beyond words, is the one that helps me perform with every new challenge I encounter, both in aviation and in everyday life.\u2019 – Mihai Golu<\/p>\n The Fulbright Student Award is a competition for master\u2019s study or research in the United States. Applicants should be Romanian graduates \u2013 BA (last year students), MA or PhD students – from accredited public and private universities. The Fulbright Student Award provides international travel, tuition and university fees within established budget limits, books and supplies allowance, accident\/sickness insurance and a living stipend for one academic year. In short \u2013 there is absolutely no reason for you not to apply!<\/p>\n Applications are now open and you have time to complete the online application until the 7th of May 2019. Apart from the online application you will also have to submit 3 letters of recommendation \u2013 it is recommended to have them from both professors and professionals you worked with. After submitting those, Fulbright commission will decide if you get invited to an interview.<\/p>\n Four months after we submitted our applications we received the interview invitation, which took place in Bucharest in the second half of September. As we were both working away from home, we flew back home and get in the interview prepared to show them who we are and why should they send us to America! Well\u2026 or not so prepared. We didn\u2019t really know what to expect from the interview, but everything went smoothly in the end. The interview was no longer than 15 minutes, at a round table facing 8 interviewers, both American and Romanian professors and professionals.<\/p>\n \u201c15 minutes can pass so fast! I personally got the impression that I could have told them much much more, so the positive response took me by surprise.\u201d \u2013 Andreea Sfia<\/p>\n At the beginning of October we received the \u201cCongratulations, you passed the interview\u201d which meant you\u2019re going to study in America for one year! Of course this is not all, because it would have been too easy. Everyone that passed the interview had to take two exams: TOEFL and GRE (a standardized test including Math and English for any master in engineering).<\/p>\n In the same period we were asked to make a list of Universities and master programs we would like to apply for (we both made a list of 7, 8 programs). Then, together with the Fulbright commission, we had to decide on 4 programs where our application will be sent. The unexpected part was that we didn\u2019t have to do anything else from this point; the International Institute of Education was to handle all the application process \u2013 so we waited.<\/p>\n Few days ago we got the responses from the universities. Our choices were Arizona State University, Embry Riddle, Florida University of Technology and Purdue University because they have good programs for Air Traffic Management and Human Factors (what we were interested in). We both got positive responses from all master programs, even some scholarships offered by the faculties. The Fulbright commission estimated our costs and it looks like the 40,000$ scholarship covers everything.<\/p>\n We still haven\u2019t decided on the university, but wherever we end up we are sure that the experience will be an amazing one. In the USA universities start in August, so feel free to ask us for impressions after we get there.<\/p>\n When it comes to your future, there is never too much work or not enough time. Don\u2019t stay too comfortable just because you are busy with writing your thesis of final exams, we all know you have time to write an essay and ask for some recommendations. Aceast\u0103 activitate presupune capacitatea de creare a conexiunilor, mai multe activit\u0103\u021bi prin intermediul c\u0103rora se contureaz\u0103 \u0219i func\u021bioneaz\u0103 o interconectare de componente diverse care provin din domenii diferite. Acest lucru presupune interdisciplinaritate. Eu pentru asta v\u0103d acum c\u0103 ne preg\u0103te\u0219te facultatea noastr\u0103, nu pentru a executa un task \u0219i mai cur\u00e2nd acela\u0219i task dup\u0103 ce l-am perfec\u021bionat, nu pentru a ne mul\u021bumi cu trecerea \u00een revist\u0103 a examenelor, ci pentru evolu\u021bie, pentru acel v\u00e2rf de lance despre care ni s-a spus \u00eenc\u0103 din anul I de licen\u021b\u0103. Este \u00een natura noastr\u0103 s\u0103 evolu\u0103m, iar \u00eendemnul pe care l-am primit urm\u00e2nd cursurile facult\u0103\u021bii de Inginerie Aerospa\u021bial\u0103 \u0219i ascult\u00e2nd pe domnii profesori, chiar \u0219i atunci c\u00e2nd a trebuit s\u0103 privim dincolo de cuvinte, este cel care m\u0103 ajut\u0103 s\u0103 performez la fiecare nou\u0103 provocare pe care o \u00eent\u00e2lnesc, at\u00e2t \u00een domeniul avia\u021bie, c\u00e2t \u0219i \u00een via\u021ba de zi cu zi\u201d\u2019 \u2013 Mihai Golu<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> Bursele Fulbright sunt o competi\u021bie pentru finantarea studiilor de master \u0219i de cercetare \u00een Statele Unite. Aplican\u021bii trebuie s\u0103 fie absolven\u021bi rom\u00e2ni \u2013 licen\u021ba (studenti \u00een an terminal), master sau doctorat, de la universit\u0103\u021bi de stat sau private. Bursa ofer\u0103 transport, taxe de scolarizare, cazare, mese, manuale, asigurare medical\u0103, totul pentru un an \u00een limita bugetului alocat. Pe scurt \u2013 nu exist\u0103 nici un motiv care s\u0103 v\u0103 re\u021bin\u0103 din a aplica!<\/p> Aplica\u021biile sunt acum deschise, iar deadlinul pentru trimiterea aplica\u021biei online este pe data de 7 mai<\/strong>. Pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 aplica\u021bia online, mai este nevoie de 3 recomand\u0103ri \u2013 vi se recomand\u0103 s\u0103 alege\u021bi at\u00e2t profesori c\u00e2t \u0219i persoane al\u0103turi de care a\u021bi lucrat (\u00een stagiile de practic\u0103 de exemplu). Dup\u0103 ce aplica\u021bia este trimis\u0103, comisia o va evalua iar cei \u2018noroco\u0219i\u2019 ve\u021bi fi invita\u021bi la un interviu.<\/p> Am aflat ve\u0219ti patru luni mai t\u00e2rziu c\u00e2nd am primit invita\u021bia la inteviu, care a avut loc \u00een a doua jum\u0103tate a lunii Septembrie. Am\u00e2ndoi lucr\u0103m \u00een afara \u021b\u0103rii, a\u0219a c\u0103 ne-am urcat \u00een avion \u0219i am zburat acas\u0103 pentru interviu, preg\u0103ti\u021bi s\u0103 dovedim comisiei c\u0103 merit\u0103m bursele! Dar nu \u00eentocmai. Nu am \u0219tiut cum se va desf\u0103\u0219ura interviul, dar totul a mers bine fiindc\u0103 echipa a fost foarte organizat\u0103 \u00een a ne ghida. Interviul a durat nu mai mult de 15 minute, la o mas\u0103 rotund\u0103 cu 8 intervievatori, at\u00e2t rom\u00e2ni c\u00e2t \u0219i americani.<\/p> \u201c15 minute trec nemaipomenit de repde. Personal am sim\u021bit c\u0103 puteam s\u0103 le spun mult mai multe, \u00eentr-un mod mai organizat, a\u0219a c\u0103 raspunsul pozitiv m-a luat pu\u021bin prin surprindere!\u201d -Andreea Sfia<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> La inceputul lunii octombrie am primit mailul de felicit\u0103ri, trecusem de interviu, ceea ce \u00eensemn\u0103 c\u0103 avem mari \u0219anse s\u0103 mergem in America la studii pentru un an! Sigur, asta nu a fost tot, pentru c\u0103 ar fi fost prea u\u0219or. Dup\u0103 etapa interviului a trebuit s\u0103 d\u0103m dou\u0103 examene: TOEFl si GRE (un examen de engleza si matematica, pe care \u00eel dau to\u021bi studentii ce vor un master \u00een inginerie\/\u0219tiinte).<\/p> \u00cen aceea\u0219i perioad\u0103 ni s-a cerut s\u0103 \u00eentocmim o list\u0103 de universit\u0103\u021bi \u0219i de programme la care ne dorim s\u0103 aplic\u0103m (ambii am trimis o lista cu 7, 8 programe de master). Ulterior, \u0103laturi de comisia Fulbright a trebuit s\u0103 alegem doar 4 din acestea, urm\u00e2nd ca aplica\u021bia noastr\u0103 s\u0103 fie trimisa universit\u0103\u021bilor. Partea surprinz\u0103toare a fost c\u0103 noi nu am participat activ din acest punct, procesul desf\u0103\u0219ur\u00e2ndu-se prin International Institute of Education care a aplicat \u00een numele nostru.<\/p> \u00cen urm\u0103 cu c\u00e2teva zile am primit r\u0103spunsurile de la facult\u0103\u021bi, toate 4 pozitive. Alegerile noastre au fost Arizona State University, Embry Riddle, Florida University of Technology \u0219i Purdue University deoarece toate au programe excelente de Management de Trafic Aerian \u0219i de Factori Umani (programe de care suntem noi interesa\u021bi). Am primit de la comisie \u0219i costurile estimate, si pare c\u0103 ne \u00eencadr\u0103m \u00een cei $40,000 acoperi\u021bi de bursa Fulbright.<\/p> \u00cenca nu am decis la ce facultate vom merge, dar \u0219tim c\u0103 orice alegere vom face experien\u021ba va fi una minunat\u0103. \u00cen America programul universitar \u00eencepe \u00een luna august.<\/p> Nu este niciodat\u0103 prea mult de munc\u0103 sau prea pu\u021bin timp atunci c\u00e2nd \u00een joc este viitorul personal, iar odat\u0103 cu el bun\u0103starea \u0219i de ce nu, fericirea pe care omul o caut\u0103 \u00eentr-o via\u021b\u0103.
