She does not go shopping, she barely has the chance to see the airport, the city stays out of reach. But she works travelling, a dream which occupies the mind of many white collars.<\/p>\n<p>180 hours on helicopters and 3,500 hours on Boeing airplanes. This are Laura G\u00e2rdu&#8217;s career numbers up to now (she is 32), graduate of the Romanian Aviation Academy and the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, now airline captain. Her dream is to fly a Boeing 777, a large airplane used on intercontinental flights.<\/p>\n<p>She does not talk much, but says that heights attracted her since she was small: \u201dWhen I was a child and I saw airplanes in the sky, I followed them with my sight and I wish I reached them. I had a time in my childhood, when to the question \u201dWhat would you like to do when you will grow up?\u201d, my reply was \u201dCosmonaut\u201d. Later, I did not stick to this option, but somehow the destiny brought me to aviation\u201d says Laura G\u00e2rdu, whom I met at the headquarters of the Blue Air airline, when she was browsing aviation magazines. By the way, one of the key moments in her life was when she discovered the Top Gun magazines in high school. \u201dThen I wanted to become a pilot\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For 7 years now, her office is the cockpit of a Boeing 737, where she coordinates two return flights daily, on the routes of the low cost company Blue Air. For 5-6 hours daily she flies the company aircraft, on all company routes. She flew smaller aircraft before. She has 55 hours of flight on Cessna 172S, 20 hours on Diamond Katana Da-20, 20 hours on Piper Seneca PA-24, and 180 hours on Eurocopter EC-120 and EC-155B helicopters.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating the National College \u201dCantemir Vod\u0103\u201d in Bucharest in 2000, computer science profile, Laura G\u00e2rdu chose to study aerospace at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the University Politehnica of Bucharest (2000-2005), and in 2004-2007 she followed the courses of the Romanian Aviation Academy to become a commercial helicopter pilot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dBefore choosing the faculty, my only flying experience was a Bucharest-London flight, as a passenger. I had a passion for aviation, not something inherited from my family. My parents saw me a medicine student, or a foreign languages one. At the Romanian Aviation Academy admission, I took maths, physics and English tests, eliminatory tests, besides the medical test: \u201d60% of the candidates failed the medical test. You need a clear motivation if you want to become a pilot. I did my best to become one, I wanted it very much, the personal factor mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to 20 placed are budgeted annually at the Romanian Aviation Academy. The ATPL (Airlines Transport Pilot Licence) enables the operation on passenger aircraft, and the tuition costs like Euro 60,000 and takes maximum 36 months and 220 flying hours (partially on simulators). When graduating the courses, you take theory and practical tests for getting the ATPL licence, which is the highest qualification of a pilot. This licence is valid for 7 years, during which time the pilot must gather 1,500 flight hours, otherwise the licence may be lost.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of the Romanian Aviation Academy who followed an integrated ATPL program has a co-pilot qualification on multi-engine airplanes and equipped for public air transport, with a possibility to reach Captain after other courses. After school however, every graduate takes additional training at the companies they are hired, to train for the specific airplanes that they are using.<\/p>\n<p>At Blue Air there are 76 pilots, but only 4 are women co-pilots, and 2 are captain pilots. Laura G\u00e2rdu&#8217;s husband is also a pilot in the company, both of them being recruited in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Laura G\u00e2rdu says that she has working hours like any other employee, but the schedule starts always at different hours. Every time she ends the program, she goes home, to her family. In her spare time, she does spots, roller skating or riding the bicycle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dTo be a pilot means that I have a job that I love, which brings satisfactions, emotions, and a confirmation of the fact that everyone needs to be encouraged to do what they like, because this way they will deliver the best results. Since I decided for a career in aviation, the road to the cockpit seemed not hard, not easy, just natural. I regarded each challenge as a natural step, which must be taken to reach the goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pilot&#8217;s salary stays within Euro 2,000 and 7,000 a month in Romania, according to market data. A captain pilot could make even Euro 10,000 a month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dA great joy each flight is the pure pleasure of height, a cut from the daily noise, but also the adventure of travel, of covering a large distance in a short time. Not only once I caught myself thinking of returning home from a flight: look at me, it is 3 pm and I have already made to Paris and back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even if she reaches other foreign destination daily in the cockpit, she is not a tourist in the same time, because she does not step down from the airplane. She stays in the cockpit to prepare the immediate flight back. \u201dWhen I was reaching to a new destination, we pilots do not have the time to admire the landscapes from above, because we are concentrated on landing. On medium haul flights, we do not even get down from the plane, preparing the flight back instead\u201d says Laura G\u00e2rdu.<\/p>\n<p>Laura G\u00e2rdu says that aviation challenges match the satisfaction coming out of it. Periodically, a pilot must pass a series of exams and tests, and while flying, he or she must expect anything: \u201dWhat does anything mean? Dar munce\u015fte c\u0103l\u0103torind, un vis care ocup\u0103 mintea multor corporati\u015fti.<\/p><p>180 DE ORE PE ELICOPTER \u015eI 3.500 DE ORE DE ZBOR LA MAN\u015eA AVIOANELOR BOEING. ACESTEA SUNT CIFRELE DIN CARIERA DE P\u00c2N\u0102 ACUM A LAUREI G\u00c2RDU (32 DE ANI), absolvent al \u015ecolii Superioare de Avia\u0163ie Civil\u0103 \u015fi al Facult\u0103\u0163ii de Inginerie Aerospa\u0163ial\u0103, acum comandant de avion comercial. Visul ei este s\u0103 ajung\u0103 \u015fi la man\u015fa unui Boeing 777, un avion de mare capacitate, folosit pe zboruri intercontinentale.<\/p><p>Nu este prea vorb\u0103rea\u0163\u0103, dar poveste\u015fte c\u0103 \u00een\u0103l\u0163imile au pasionat-o de mic\u0103: \u201eC\u00e2nd eram mic\u0103 \u015fi vedeam avioane pe cer le urm\u0103ream \u00eendelung cu privirea \u015fi \u00eemi doream s\u0103 ajung la ele. Am avut chiar o perioad\u0103 \u00een copil\u0103rie c\u00e2nd la \u00eentrebarea \u00abCe vrei s\u0103 fii, pui\u015for, c\u00e2nd te faci mare?\u00bb r\u0103spunsul meu era: cosmonaut. Ulterior nu pot spune c\u0103 am r\u0103mas fixat\u0103 pe ideea aceasta, \u00eens\u0103 cumva destinul m-a adus \u00een avia\u0163ie\", spune Laura G\u00e2rdu, pe care am \u00eent\u00e2lnit-o la sediul companiei aeriene Blue Air, r\u0103sfoind reviste de avia\u0163ie. De altfel, un moment decisiv \u00een cariera ei a fost, dup\u0103 cum spune ea, \u201ec\u00e2nd am descoperit revistele Top Gun \u00een liceu \u015fi am decis c\u0103 vreau s\u0103 devin pilot\".<\/p><p>DE \u015eAPTE ANI, BIROUL EI ESTE CABINA UNUI AVION BOEING 737, DE UNDE COORDONEAZ\u0102 ZILNIC DOU\u0102 ZBORURI (DUS-\u00ceNTORS) PE RUTE DIN RE\u0162EAUA COMPANIEI AERIENE LOW-COST BLUE AIR. Timp de cinci-\u015fase ore pe zi zboar\u0103 la man\u015fa avionului pe toate rutele companiei. \u00cenainte a zburat pe avioane de mici dimensiuni. Are 55 de ore de zbor pe Cessna 172 S, 20 de ore pe avioane de tip Diamond Katana Da-20, 20 de ore pe avioane Piper Seneca PA-34, iar pe elicoptere Eurocopter 120 \u015fi Eurocopter 155B are 180 de ore de zbor.<\/p><p>Dup\u0103 ce a absolvit \u00een 2000 Colegiul Na\u0163ional \u201eCantemir Vod\u0103\u201e\u00a0 din Bucure\u015fti, profilul Informatic\u0103, Laura G\u00e2rdu a ales s\u0103 studieze construc\u0163ii aerospa\u0163iale la Facultatea de Inginerie Aerospa\u0163ial\u0103 din cadrul Universit\u0103\u0163ii Politehnica din Bucure\u015fti (2000-2005), iar \u00een perioada 2004-2007 a urmat cursurile \u015ecolii Superioare de Avia\u0163ie Civil\u0103 pentru formarea ca pilot comercial de elicoptere.<\/p><p>\u201e\u00cenainte de-a m\u0103 \u00eenscrie la facultate singura mea experien\u0163\u0103 pe avion fusese pe un zbor Bucure\u015fti-Londra, pe care am c\u0103l\u0103torit ca pasager. M-am orientat spre avia\u0163ie din pasiune, nu este ceva ce am mo\u015ftenit din familie. P\u0103rin\u0163ii m\u0103 vedeau student\u0103 la Medicin\u0103 sau la Limbi Str\u0103ine.\u201e La admitere la \u015ecoala Superioar\u0103 de Avia\u0163ie a sus\u0163inut teste la matematic\u0103, fizic\u0103 \u015fi englez\u0103, probe eliminatorii, al\u0103turi de cea medical\u0103: \u201e60% dintre candida\u0163i au picat la proba medical\u0103. Trebuie s\u0103 ai o motiva\u0163ie clar\u0103 dac\u0103 vrei s\u0103 devii pilot. Eu am depus tot efortul pentru a ajunge pilot, mi-am dorit foarte mult s\u0103 fac acest lucru, factorul personal a contat mult\".<\/p><p>P\u00c2N\u0102 \u00ceN 20 DE LOCURI SUNT BUGETATE ANUAL LA \u015eCOALA SUPERIOAR\u0102 DE AVIA\u0162IE. Instruirea pentru licen\u0163a de pilot de linie ATPL (airlines transport pilot license), care permite operarea de zboruri cu avioane ce transport\u0103 pasageri, cost\u0103 circa 60.000 de euro \u015fi const\u0103 \u00een maximum 36 de luni de \u015fcolarizare \u015fi 220 de ore de zbor (dintre care o parte pe simulator). La absolvirea cursurilor se sus\u0163in examene teoretice \u015fi practice pentru ob\u0163inerea licen\u0163ei ATPL, care atest\u0103 cea mai \u00eenalt\u0103 calificare a unui pilot. Aceast\u0103 licen\u0163\u0103 este valabil\u0103 \u015fapte ani, timp \u00een care un pilot trebuie s\u0103 acumuleze minimum 1.500 de ore de zbor, \u00een caz contrar pierz\u00e2ndu-\u015fi licen\u0163a.<\/p><p>Un absolvent al \u015ecolii Superioare de Avia\u0163ie Civil\u0103 care a urmat un curs de preg\u0103tire integrat pentru ob\u0163inerea licen\u0163ei ATPL are calificare de copilot pe avioane multimotor \u015fi multiechipate destinate transportului aerian public, put\u00e2nd s\u0103 ajung\u0103 chiar comandant dup\u0103 alte cursuri. Dup\u0103 \u015fcoal\u0103 \u00eens\u0103, fiecare absolvent beneficiaz\u0103 de training suplimentar \u00een cadrul companiilor aeriene la care se angajeaz\u0103, pentru a se preg\u0103ti de zbor pe avioanele cu care opereaz\u0103 acestea.<\/p><p>La Blue Air lucreaz\u0103 76 de pilo\u0163i, din care doar patru sunt femei copilot, iar dou\u0103 ocup\u0103 func\u0163ia de comandant. \u015ei so\u0163ul Laurei G\u00e2rdu lucreaz\u0103 tot ca pilot \u00een cadrul acestei companii, am\u00e2ndoi fiind recruta\u0163i \u00een 2007.<\/p><p>LAURA G\u00c2RDU SPUNE C\u0102 ARE PROGRAM CA ORICE ALT ANGAJAT, DOAR C\u0102 ACESTA \u00ceNCEPE MEREU LA ALTE ORE. De fiecare dat\u0103 la finalul programului merge acas\u0103, la familia ei. \u00cen timpul liber face sport, merge cu rolele sau cu bicicleta.<\/p><p>\"S\u0103 fiu pilot \u00eenseamn\u0103 s\u0103 am o meserie care \u00eemi place, care \u00eemi aduce satisfac\u0163ii, emo\u0163ii \u015fi o confirmare a faptului c\u0103 omul trebuie \u00eencurajat s\u0103 fac\u0103 ceea ce \u00ee\u015fi dore\u015fte pentru c\u0103 a\u015fa va da cele mai bune rezultate. Din momentul c\u00e2nd mi-am propus s\u0103 urmez o carier\u0103 \u00een avia\u0163ie, drumul spre man\u015f\u0103 nu mi s-a parut nici greu, nici u\u015for, doar natural. Am privit fiecare nou\u0103 provocare ca pe o etap\u0103 fireasc\u0103 ce trebuie parcurs\u0103 pentru a \u00eemi atinge idealul.\"<\/p><p>Salariul unui pilot variaz\u0103 \u00een func\u0163ie de num\u0103rul orelor de zbor, de compania aerian\u0103 angajatoare \u015fi de rutele pe care se zboar\u0103. Un pilot de avion c\u00e2\u015ftig\u0103 \u00eentre 2.000 \u015fi 7.000 de euro pe lun\u0103 \u00een Rom\u00e2nia, potrivit datelor din pia\u0163\u0103. Un pilot comandant poate ajunge \u015fi la 10.000 de euro pe lun\u0103.<\/p><p>\u201eO mare bucurie la fiecare zbor este pl\u0103cerea pur\u0103 a \u00een\u0103l\u0163imii, a deta\u015f\u0103rii de zgomotul cotidian, dar mai este \u015fi aventura c\u0103l\u0103toriei, a parcurgerii unei distan\u0163e mari \u00eentr-un timp relativ scurt. Nu doar o dat\u0103 m-am surprins g\u00e2ndindu-m\u0103 la \u00eentoarcerea acas\u0103 dintr-o curs\u0103: Ia te uit\u0103, este ora trei dup\u0103-amiaz\u0103 \u015fi eu am fost deja p\u00e2n\u0103 la Paris \u015fi \u00eenapoi\".<\/p><p>Chiar dac\u0103 zilnic ajunge \u00een alt\u0103 destina\u0163ie din str\u0103in\u0103tate la man\u015fa avionului, ea nu este \u015fi turist \u00een acela\u015fi timp, dat fiind c\u0103 nu coboar\u0103 din avion, ci r\u0103m\u00e2ne \u00een cockpit pentru a se preg\u0103ti de zborul de \u00eentoarcere. \u201eC\u00e2nd ajungem \u00eentr-o destina\u0163ie nou\u0103, noi, pilo\u0163ii, nici nu avem timp s\u0103 admir\u0103m peisajul de sus, deoarece suntem foarte concentra\u0163i pentru aterizare. Nici nu cobor\u00e2m din avion, ci ne preg\u0103tim pentru zborul de retur pe cursele de curier mediu (distan\u0163e medii)\", spune Laura G\u00e2rdu.<\/p><p>Laura G\u00e2rdu mai spune c\u0103 provoc\u0103rile zborului sunt pe m\u0103sura satisfac\u0163iilor oferite. Periodic un pilot trece printr-o serie de examene \u015fi verific\u0103ri, iar c\u00e2nd se afl\u0103 la man\u015fa avionului trebuie s\u0103 fie preg\u0103tit pentru orice: \u201eCe \u00eenseamn\u0103 orice?
