They are true stories of life of aviation engineers of that time, illustrating how high level engineering was done in a country, which seemed to belong to the third world back then. The wake of communism is very vivid in these stories. One of the characteristics of communism is that always something very basic is on short supply. We could have an aerospace industry, but no Diesel fuel and powder milk for babies.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow V. Testimonial<\/p>\n<p>\u201dHow did I end up working for the Civil Aviation Authority? I was working at Clinceni, in the military, in the Calug\u0103ru\u2019s team. We were carried by army buses every day from Bucharest to Clinceni. We repaired MiG-23 missiles, which broke down often, because they did not have anti-stupid couples, could be connected in both positions. If the couple was inserted in the wrong position, the guidance unit burned in a couple of seconds and was sent to us. We got much work to do, because those who connected the units were very productive. The unit was sealed in Nytrogen. We got inside, repaired the gyroscopes, and then sent them to Chi\u0219in\u0103u to be resealed in Nytrogen. We did not have that particular tool, we just did the electrical part. Until one day, when the army ran out of fuel for buses. We were informed that the Diesel fuel was missing, and our transfer to Clinceni was no longer available. Thus, we needed to find work in the city. They were just funding the Romanian Civil Aiviation Authority. We had no clue what was it about. Testimonial<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI was working at Clinceni too, in C\u0103lug\u0103ru\u2019s team. Our task was to transform a Soviet Air-to-Air missile into a Ground-to-Air missile. After we finished the prototype, we had to ship it to Aerostar Bac\u0103u, for testing. The problem was how? The rocket was about 6 ft. long, in a private car could not fit in, and on the roof might have risen suspicion. The army had no Diesel fuel to send it by truck to Bac\u0103u. Thus, we tried to be creative. We took out the wings and put them in a luggage. The bare rocket was thin, and yet long. We rolled it in a Persian carpet and took it by bus to the railway station, and then by train. We put it on the corridor of the coach. People stumbled over it, but we were not concerned, it was disarmed and resilient enough. At Bac\u0103u we got inside the factory without problems. Due to the thefts, guardians were only paying attention to people going out. After successfully delivering the rocket to the testing engineers, we recovered our carpet and left. Lucram la Clinceni, la armat\u0103, \u00een colectivul lui C\u0103lug\u0103ru. Eram du\u0219i cu autobuze de armat\u0103 din Bucure\u0219ti la Clinceni \u00een fiecare diminea\u021b\u0103. Reparam rachete de MiG-23, care se stricau des, pentru c\u0103 nu aveau cuple anti-prost, intrau \u00een ambele pozi\u021bii. Dac\u0103 era b\u0103gat\u0103 invers, centrala de dirijare se ardea \u00een dou\u0103 secunde \u0219i ajungea la noi. Aveam mult de lucru, pentru c\u0103 productivitate celor care b\u0103gau cuplele invers era mare. Centrala era \u00eencapsulat\u0103 \u00een azot, noi o demontam \u0219i reparam girscoapele, apoi o trimiteam la Chi\u0219in\u0103u pentru a fi represurizat\u0103 \u00een azot. Noi nu aveam instala\u021bia respectiv\u0103, doar reparam partea electric\u0103. P\u00e2n\u0103 \u00eentr-o zi, c\u00e2nd armata n-a mai avut motorin\u0103 pentru autobuze. Am fost anun\u021ba\u021bi c\u0103 din lips\u0103 de motorin\u0103, nu mai putem fi transporta\u021bi la Clinceni. A\u0219a c\u0103 am fost obliga\u021bi s\u0103 ne c\u0103ut\u0103m de lucru \u00een Bucure\u0219ti. Tocmai se \u00eenfiin\u021ba Autoritatea Aeonautic\u0103 Civil\u0103 Rom\u00e2n\u0103. Nu \u0219tiam ce e aia. Dup\u0103 ce am terminat prototipul, trebuia s\u0103-l trimitem la Aerostar Bac\u0103u pentru a fi pus la teste. Problema era c\u0103 n-aveam cu ce s\u0103-l trimitem. Racheta era de vreo 2 m lungime, \u00eentr-o ma\u0219in\u0103 particular\u0103 nu \u00eenc\u0103pea, iar dac\u0103 o puneam deasupra, pe capot\u0103, ar fi dat de b\u0103nuit. Armata nu avea motorin\u0103 s\u0103 o trimitem cu un camion la Bac\u0103u. A\u0219a c\u0103 am \u00eencercat s\u0103 fim creativi. Am demontat aripioarele \u0219i le-am b\u0103gat \u00eentr-un geamantan. Racheta r\u0103mas\u0103 era destul de sub\u021bire, dar era lung\u0103. Am \u00eenf\u0103\u0219urat-o \u00eentr-un covor persan \u0219i am luat-o cu autobuzul la gar\u0103, apoi cu trenul. Am pus-o pe culoarul de la vagon. Se mai \u00eempiedica lumea de ea, dar nu ne f\u0103ceam griji, era dezamorsat\u0103 \u0219i destul de rezistent\u0103. La Bac\u0103u am intrat f\u0103r\u0103 probleme pe poarta fabricii. Din cauza furturilor din fabric\u0103, paznicii erau aten\u021bi doar la ie\u0219ire. A\u0219a c\u0103, dup\u0103 ce am livrat racheta cu succes la inginerii de la testare, ne-am luat covorul \u0219i am dat s\u0103 plec\u0103m.
