In the\u00a0Radu Voinea<\/strong> AN010 amphitheater on 25 September 2017, 10 am, the Rector of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu declared the new University Year 2017-2018 opened, in an enthusiast atmosphere. The Rector pointed out the value and the tradition of the Bucharest Polytechnic school, which will celebrate 200 years right in this UY. The speech of the President of the Senate,\u00a0 Ecaterina Andronescu was touching, on a powerful motivational note. More about this ceremony\u00a0<here><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering held its opening ceremony in the\u00a0Virgil Constantinescu<\/strong> F024 amphitheater, at 2 pm.\u00a0Dean Assoc. Prof. Octavian Thor Pleter<\/strong>, Department Directors Prof. Sterian D\u0103n\u0103il\u0103<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Prof. Adrian Stoica <\/strong>participated,\u00a0as well as the former Dean<\/strong>\u00a02008-2016 Prof. Virgil Stanciu<\/strong>. An interesting fact is that both amphitheaters used in thsese ceremonies bear the names of two great personalities of UPB-FAE, Acad. Radu Voinea<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Acad Virgil Constantinescu<\/strong><\/a>. Both were Presidents of the Romanian Academy and in the same time taught many generations of faculty students in the disciplines of mechanics and aerodynamics, respectively.<\/p>\n

The Dean presented the\u00a0Best Aerospace Engineering Employer Award 2017<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0AEROSTAR S. A. Bac\u0103u<\/strong>, reprezented by\u00a0HR Director Dr. Eng. Dan Paul M\u0103lin Popa<\/strong>, accompanied by the young engineers\u00a0Gheorghe Popescu<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ioana Ionescu<\/strong>, two of the\u00a032<\/strong>\u00a0graduates of UPB-FAE employed by AEROSTAR in the latest years. AEROSTAR S. A. company is expanding and runs contracts with large international aviation companies, including Airbus and Boeing. Director Popa pointed out the high expectations in this cutting edge technology field and assured that AEROSTAR has plans to continue to hire graduates.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Next the floor was taken by\u00a0Mihnea Gall<\/strong>, performance scholarship student in the 4th Year at Propulsion Systems, in the name of the\u00a0Space Pirahnas<\/strong>\u00a0team of UPB-FAE, who got the\u00a0Airbus Safran 2017<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Prize in Paris at Le Bourget in June 2017. This prize at the first participation of the faculty in a large European competition reveals a special recognition of the value of our school internationally. Also, the prize catches the expansion of the field of astronautics, in scientific research and technology development. In these, the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering in fully engaged. In his speech, Prof. Adrian Stoica also emphasized the high dynamics of this field, and Prof. Sterian D\u0103n\u0103il\u0103 indicated the opening of the Holistic Space Systems<\/strong> master program with free tuition places.<\/p>\n

Dean Assoc. Prof. Octavian Thor Pleter mentioned a few remarkable events of the past university year:\u00a0signing of the Partenership with Fokker Engineering Romania<\/a><\/strong>, which resulted among other things in the Fokker Academy program; the visit of the Air Canada President, C\u0103lin Rovinescu<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on the occasion of receiving the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, new major investments in the Romanian aerospace industry (Airbus Helicopters \u0219i Sonaca).<\/p>\n

Flying Practice<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the 2nd Year was reintroduced in 2017, after 25 years of interruption, with help from the Ministry of National Education and Aeroclubului Rom\u00e2niei. The Dean compared his stage of flying practice from 1983 on IS-28 M2 motor gliders with the 2017 flying practice on IS-29 D2 gliders. Both were designed and manufactured by \u00a0Eng. Iosif \u0218ilimon<\/strong><\/a>, a remarkable graduate of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. The Dean will look for financial resources to make the flying practice to continue in the following years. Also, together with Director Dan Paul M\u0103lin Popa, we hope that Romanian-designed Romanian-made aircraft will resurface in the future, which would try to match the international success of the IS aircraft built at ICA Ghimbav Bra\u0219ov.<\/p>\n

The Dean mentioned the faculty tradition also through the photo which repreents the same amphitheater Virgil Constantinescu F024 in May 1931, on the occasion of the\u00a0inauguration of the Faculty Wind Tunnel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prof. Sterian D\u0103n\u0103il\u0103 in his intervention insisted on the exigence level in aviation, and on the special responsibility associated with the profession of aerospace engineer.<\/p>\n

Next, the company Jeppesen – Boeing<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0through\u00a0Sascha Neusser<\/strong>\u00a0announced a competition for students, to use the\u00a0E-Academy<\/strong>\u00a0platform belonging to that company, world leader in air information services. The competition targets the FAE students, who may enroll as soon as a certain e-mail address will be published on this site. After the selection of 30 students, an on-line training process will follow and those students with the best results will be gratified with flying hours at the\u00a0RAS Tuzla<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Fly School as a start into achieving the PPL (Private Pilot Licence).<\/p>\n

Ing. Sorin Ro\u0219ca<\/strong>, alumnus of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering presented next another competition for the students, a technical creativity contest, with important cash prizes, organized by AROPA (Romanian Association of Aviation Operators). Octavian Thor Pleter<\/strong>, Directorii de Departament Prof. Sterian D\u0103n\u0103il\u0103<\/strong> \u0219i Prof. Adrian Stoica<\/strong>, precum \u0219i Decanul 2008-2016 Prof. Virgil Stanciu<\/strong>. Un fapt interesant este c\u0103 ambele amfiteatre folosite la deschidere apoart\u0103 numele a dou\u0103 mari personalit\u0103\u021bi ale UPB-FIA, Acad. Radu Voinea<\/strong> \u0219i Acad Virgil Constantinescu<\/strong><\/a>. Ambii au fost pre\u0219edin\u021bi ai Academiei Rom\u00e2ne \u0219i \u00een acela\u0219i timp au predat multor genera\u021bii de studen\u021bii ai facult\u0103\u021bii ore de mecanic\u0103, respectiv de aerodinamic\u0103.<\/p>

Decanul a comparat practica sa de zbor din 1983 pe motoplanoare IS-28 M2 cu practica de zbor din 2017, pe planoare IS-29 D2. Ambele au fost proiectate \u0219i construite de ing. Iosif \u0218ilimon<\/strong><\/a>, un absolvent de renume al Facult\u0103\u021bii de Inginerie Aerospa\u021bial\u0103. Decanul a promis c\u0103 va c\u0103uta resurse financiare pentru ca practica de zbor s\u0103 continue \u0219i \u00een anii urm\u0103tori. De asemenea, \u00eempreun\u0103 cu dl. Director Dan Paul M\u0103lin Popa, sper\u0103m c\u0103 vor mai exista aeronave de concep\u021bie rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 \u0219i \u00een viitor, care s\u0103 \u00eencerce s\u0103 egaleze succesul interna\u021bional al aeronavelor IS construite la ICA Ghimbav Bra\u0219ov.<\/p>
