Marius Stoia-Djeska was born on March 31, 1960 in Bocșa, Caraș-Severin County. After graduating from the Industrial High School No. 2 in Bocșa, he was admitted to the Faculty of Aircraft of the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest in 1980. In 1985 he graduated from the aircraft department (structure) and worked as a junior engineer until 1988 at the Craiova Aircraft Company. There he worked on the design of hydraulic systems at IAR-99 and maintenance work. In 1987 he was admitted through a competition to the ICSIT Aviation Bucharest and was a scientific researcher. In 1990 he entered a competition at the Polytechnic for a position as a university assistant, collaborating with the late Professor Petre Augustin, being attracted by aeroelasticity. In 1997 he obtained the title of doctor in aerospace engineering. He has completed all stages of teaching degrees, being lecturer in 1995, associate professor in 2005 and professor in 2019. He has taught Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Aeroelasticity, Dynamics of Aerospace Structures. He has published 50 scientific articles and 9 books, in collaboration with prestigious professors: Prof. Sterian Dănăilă, Prof. Carmen Anca Safta, as well as the late Assoc. Prof. Florin Frunzulică. The publication of the Fluid-Structure Interaction chapter in Fluid dynamics, Computational modeling and applications, editor L. Hector Juarez (2012, co-author Carmen Anca Safta), a very valuable introduction to CFD called A Practical Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics, EDP Bucharest (2005), as well as the Numerical Methods in Fluid Dynamics chapter in Vortex Flows and Applications, editors Romeo Susan-Resiga, Sandor Bernad, Sebastian Muntean (2007) and Introduction to turbulence modeling, Ed Politehnica Press, (main author Sterian Dănăilă, 2017) remain of reference. He was responsible for the first master’s degree in space technologies of the faculty and was involved in numerous research projects, also obtaining a patent for a device for converting the energy of a fluid into electricity. Within the National Institute INCAS he was one of the leaders of the Aerospace scientific conferences. He served from 2008 to 2020 as vice-dean of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Politehnica University of Bucharest, and since 2023 he has held the position of director of the Elie Carafoli Department of Aerospace Sciences. He was a founding member of the Alumni Politehnica Aerospace Engineering Association. He passed away on September 16, 2025 and will be buried in his hometown of Borșa, Caraș-Severin County. Marius Stoia-Djeska was an extraordinary friend and colleague, with a special ability to solve complex problems, to explain the most difficult theories, but also with the generosity to help. He had a remarkable understanding of aerospace engineering problems, from technical aspects, practical aviation, to the most advanced mathematical models. As a teacher, he had a special empathy for students and had a professional but relaxed attitude in class. Marius will remain in the memory of students and colleagues with his bright smile, with his relentless optimism.
