On 24 Octomber 2016, the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and the Romanian Aviation Academy (RAA) have signed a cooperation protocol for 8 years, to work together in civil aviation training and education at a state of the art level, with a view for perspective.
The goal of the protocol is a better grip of the aerospace upper education to aviation practice and an adequate response to the international market demand for pilots-engineers, engineers-maintenance technicians and air traffic controllers – engineers, with double tuition, both academic (engineering) and professional (EASA licenced).
The dual diploma (pilots-engineers, engineers-maintenance technicians and air traffic controllers – engineers) will improve the employment perspective for graduates and will increase the appeal of the educational offer of UPB-FAE and RAA.
Between the two parties there is complementarity with respect to the material resources and the highly qualified human resources.
UPB-FAE employs over 50 faculty staff, aerospace engineering experts, and additionally over 50 associate lecturers, being the main national supplier of aerospace education in Romania.
UPB-FAE has tradition and international recognition, its graduates being very well appreciated worldwide.
UPB-FAE benefits from the institutional academic accreditation, and accreditation of its bachelor, master and doctoral programs of studies in the field of civil aviation.
RAA owns an aerodrome (Strejnic), a number of aircraft, flying instructors, flight simulators and air traffic control simulators. Also, RAA is an air operator and an aircraft maintenance operator.
RAA is professionally accredited by the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority, EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) compatible as flight operator, and as maintenance operator, for pilots training, cabin crew training and in future also air traffic controllers training.
Within the cooperation framework, the following activities and objectives are provisioned:
- Common training of pilots-engineers for civil aviation, with an aerospace engineer diploma and private pilot licence, commercial pilot licence or air transport pilot licence.
- Common training of engineers – maintenance technicians for civil aviation, with an aerospace engineer diploma and EASA Part-66 B1 and B2 maintenance technician licence.
- Common training of pilots-air traffic controllers, with an aerospace engineer diploma and air traffic controller licence.
- Involvement of the UPB-FAE staff in teaching theoretical courses at RAA.
- Recruitment of teaching and technical personnel at RAA from the students and graduates of UPB-FAE.
- Internship and voluntary activities of the UPB-FAE students at RAA.
- Flight practice of UPB-FAE students.
- The use in common of the laboratories, flight simulators and air traffic control simulators for practical training of the students of both parties.
- Cooperation in communication and media.
- Establishing in the future of a National Aviation Academy.
