Courtesy of Eng. George Barbu, CEO of the Aviation Academy and Alumnus of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, we announce this opportunity: On the occasion of the Great Union Centenary, as a sign of gratitude for the values that the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering offered to the aeronautical industry, the Aviation Academy (SSAvC) decided to offer to the future engineers 2 full scholarships (152 theory hours + 45 flying hours) to get the PPL(A) licence. The criteria to meet for those who are interested are as follows: (i) UPB-FAE students (Years 1-4 Undergraduate) who wish to participate in the selection must have all their subjects passed or at most to have failed subjects accounting for no more than 5 Credit Points; (ii) the students who fulfill the first point may register by sending an e-mail to inginerie.aerospatiala@upb.ro until 17 March 2018; (iii) the candidates will receive a set of manuals for training and will take a written theory test of the PPL subjects (Flight Principles, Navigation, Meteorology, Piston Engine Aircraft General Knowledge, Air Law). The selection contest will take place after the Summer Exam Session, and the training will start in August-September 2018. The scholarships are the outcome from the Cooperation Agreement between RCAA and UPB-FAE signed in 2016.

Between 28 February and 17 March 2018, 55 candidates have registered.

Between 5 and 20 April 2018, 45 candidates out of 55 signed the contract and received the bibliography for the final test. The other 10 did not respond to repeated calls, due to lack of time or other reasons.

From these 45 de candidates supplied with the textbooks, 2 withdrew at the beginning of June.

On 21 June 2018, 8:30 am at the Romanian Aviation Academy (Școala Superioară de Aviație Civilă) headquarters in Băneasa the candidates took the final test. This consisted of 99 questions covering 5 PPL modules according to the bibliography in 90 minutes. Out of 43 candidates, only 21 showed up.
